Diabetes Alliance Program Plus (DAP+) Winners of ACI Rural Innovation Award

The program, which commenced in 2015, aims to continue the mission of upskilling local General Practitioners (GPs) by linking them and their practice nurses with endocrinologists, diabetes educators and their patients, in collaborative consultation or a ‘case conferencing’ setting.

In 2023, DAP grew its remit to improve diabetes education for junior medical officers, nurses and allied health staff within the district and across private and NGO providers, focusing on rural and remote communities.

Martha Parsons, the DAP+ Strategic Manager, explained that the program experienced major growth in 2023.

“In 2023, we worked to enhance education, establish a diabetes and endocrine advice line, set up a new virtual case conferencing model, and translate existing research assets into practice,” she said.

“Our goal is to improve integration amongst clinicians and researchers across the entire health care system, and provide the best care for people with diabetes, no matter their geographical location.”
